Ekaterina Sememchuk - Mezzo-Soprano

Born in Minsk, Ekaterina entered the Byelorussia Music Academy in 1995 followed by the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire from which she graduated in 2001. She joined the Young Singers' Academy of the Mariinsky Theatre in 1999.

Her awards include the prize 'Hope' and the prize for the best performance of a modern St Petersburg composer's work at the International Obraztsova Competition in 1999 and the first prize of the 4th International Rimsky-Korsakov Vocal Competition 2000. She is a diplomant of the Placido Domingo International Competition (Los Angeles). In June 2001 she was selected as one of the five finalists of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. In 2005 she won the first prize at the 1st all Russia Nadezhda Obukhova competition.

Ekaterina has toured with the Mariinsky Company in China, Great Britain (Covent Garden, Barbican Centre), Germany, La Scala in Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland and The Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in the USA. Her engagements have included Carmen in Philadelphia and Charlotte in 'Werther' at the Graz Opera, Carmen a the Theatre Real Madrid, Warszawa where she worked Closely with Hoce Cura, in Tokyo with the Radio France Orchestra. She performed at the wedding of HRH Charles Price of Wales and Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Ekaterina has given recitals with Larissa Gergieva in St Petersburg and Moscow, in the Wigmore Hall London, Birmingham and Edinburgh; in New York and San Francisco, in Germany where she performed Verdi's Requiem at the Deutsche Opera Berlin and Pauline in Pique Dame at the Deutsche Staatsoper conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
