In pursuit of excellence
Ede and Ravenscroft's passion for supporting students stretches back to Victorian times and the firm's great philanthropist, Francis Ravenscroft. This master wig maker was an extraordinary man with a firm belief that education should be available to all. Among his many great achievements, he established a ladies college in Camberwell, and was Governor of Birkbeck College for over 50 years.
His love of supporting students lives on today, through the Ede and Ravenscroft Academic Prize for Excellence. Established in 1989 to mark the firm's 300th anniversary, it was given to all of their university customers and has since been awarded to a select group of colleges. The award is usually £1,000 and the only stipulation is that it must not be awarded to a final year student. The firm believes that it is more beneficial to receive funding whilst still studying. The institution decides on the rest of the criteria for entry, and also chooses the winner.
It's an award that Francis Ravenscroft would have approved of, and it has helped many students to excel in their field.
