Corner Cupboards
These are particularly outstanding examples of the corner cabinets that were popular in the Louis XVI period. They are veneered on oak with tulipwood and holly in a marquetry of lozenge shaped design and lavishly mounted with ormolu. Fitted with working locks and keys, there is also a clasp lock on the drawer in the frieze. The originals were made by Gilles Joubert and are housed in the Wallace Collection, London.

Commode en Console
Considered the marriage coffer of Queen Marie Antoinette by some experts, this remarkable chest features two intertwined ormolu mermaids that appear to support the marble top. The central panel depicts an oriental scene and is veneered on an oak carcass with purple wood stained black and lacquer panels. Made by Rene Dubois or his father Jacques Dubois representing the Louis XVI period. The original is in the Wallace Collection, London.
