Louis XVI Library, Versailles
Created in 1774 upon Louis XVI's ascension to the throne, the carved wood
panelling is an outstanding example of the neo-classical lines of the style
that bears his name. Kevin Mulvany and Susan Rogers recreated the Rousseau
brothers' panelling in their miniature version of the room to reflect the
beauty of the original.
Original to the library is Louis XVI's library table made by Jean-Henri Riesener in 1774. Denis Hillman's miniature version is the centrepiece of the room. Also featured are his miniature versions of three other Riesener pieces - the drop front Secrétaire à Abattant (far left corner), small writing desk (centre rear) and the elaborate marquetry commode (alcove).
